Wake up to… your world

I am going to admit it up front. I love trees. It all began when I was young and my parents and I went camping. We hiked along the wooded trails. It was just fun to be outdoors.
Well, it was off to college for me. After a semester of chemistry and realizing that medical school was not in my future, I chose a new major: Forestry. It was a perfect fit; I fell in love with all of my classes like Dendrology, Silviculture, Wildlife Management and Forest Ecology just to name a few.
As a Christian, what is my response to the environmental concerns of the day? God said "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion" (Gen. 1:26).
Was not the divine intent for us as human beings to take responsibility of what God had created? When I walk through the woods today and see a coastal redwood, I am just amazed at the handiwork of God.
It burdens me though to see so many in our world not even care about their responsibility in being a good steward of what God has entrusted us.
As part of God's creation, I need to be involved in taking care of this wonderful planet named earth. So as you walk on campus take a look at God's creative touch and do your part in helping to take care of it.
Pick up the trash you see on the ground. Be a good steward with the resources you have. Give God a high five for what he has created.
I can see it now. A new major at Shorter: Forestry…
