Rome-Shorter College Athletics is about to spread throughout the southeast region of the country.
It's a new season: new theme, new team, and a new television show for the Shorter Hawks this year. The Hawks have partnered up with the Coosa High School video production team to start a new athletic program to give fans an inside view of their teams.
Athletic Director, Bill Peterson, contacted Comcast Sports South asking if there was a possibility that Shorter could have the opportunity to do a show for their network. To the surprise of many, the opportunity was granted. Knowing that this would not be an easy task, Coosa High School was brought into the picture for their high-powered hard working production.
"Coosa broadcasted one of our football games last year for a local television station, and they have a really good production team run by the students. Their school is located up the road from ours, and we just thought that this situation would be convenient for all of us," said head football coach, Phil Jones.
According to the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, Tim Mathis, "There are only advantages and things to be gained by the television show. The show is really going to help out the recruiting of players throughout the southeastern region."
Jones added that, "Shorter Athletics is going to get more expensive because the show will be seen in over five million homes."
The show will focus on the game played from the week before. Highlights and statics will be talked about as well as interviews with the coaches. As of now, players will not be interviewed but that is subject to change.
With a thirty-week slot fulfilled, the show will start with football and possibly volleyball, and then roll over to basketball. There is no official name for the show but it will air every Thursday at 1 p.m. on your local CSS station, and again on Saturday and Sunday on a local station that has not yet been released.
