Delta Sigma Phi Charters at Shorter College
Press Release
Issue date: 9/22/08 Section: News
Rome, Ga. - The Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity recently announced that the Shorter College Colony's petition to charter has been accepted.
Scott Wiley, Executive Director of the national fraternity, announced that on November 22 the Shorter Colony will receive its charter and become the Theta Psi chapter of Delta Sigma Phi.
Since the colonization at Shorter College in 2003, the men have worked hard to achieve the difficult standards to charter. Prerequisites include membership, academic success, social initiatives, community service, alumni involvement, and a strong financial base.
"We have worked toward this moment for this past five years, and it is finally here," said Scott Howard, Colony Treasurer.
Along with Shorter College, Delta Sigma Phi will also charter two other chapters at Georgia Southern University and Georgia College and State University.
The charter celebration planned in downtown Atlanta will include chapter induction rituals, a formal banquet, and a dance for over three-hundred brothers from around the United States.
"We are at an incredible point. We just had our largest pledge class of 17 members, we have an incredible brotherhood, and now we are going to become a full chapter," said Chris Brown, Colony President.
The Shorter Colony of Delta Sigma Phi was formed in 2003 from a non-nationally affiliated fraternity called Zeta Rho. Currently, the colony has 35 members. Since the colonization, over 80 brothers have been inducted into Delta Sigma Phi at Shorter College.
Founded in 1899 on the principals of culture, harmony, and friendship, Delta Sigma Phi has over 110,000 initiates and 105 chapters and colonies.
